Michele Bachmann says she's working with House leaders to schedule a vote on the proposed new four-lane bridge over the Saint Croix River near Hudson.
The Minnesota Republican was the original sponsor of the bill to exempt the $690 million bridge from the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act.
Since then, lawmakers of both parties from both Minnesota and Wisconsin have supported the measure, along with the governors of both states.
The measure unanimously passed the Senate last week, but there's some at least some House opposition from those who favor a smaller and cheaper bridge for environmental reasons.
Bachmann is confident that the larger bridge will be approved.
She calls it a "wonderful transportation corridor" that would add jobs. Bachmann also says the bridge should have been built decades ago.
